Four unidentified persons clad in military uniform on Tuesday night attempted to enter the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, the police said.

In the wake of high alert sounded in the city on possible terror attack, the incident has baffled security personnel and the Central Industrial Security Force that mans the security of the airport.

However, the city police ruled out any terror threat associated with the incident.

The persons in military fatigues arrived at Indian Airlines gate at Rasoolpura side, the route usually used by airport employees, police said.

The strangers came in a four-wheeler and enquired about the route to the airport with a CISF jawan who was posted at the gate, Begumpet Inspector J Subbarami Reddy said.

They left the place when CISF jawan asked them to take another route to enter into the airport, he said, adding the vehicle which was used by them had Punjab registration number and the number could not be noted due to darkness.

The inspector, quoting the CISF jawan, said the four men's uniform sported an "EME" tag which refers to the Corps of Electrical and Mechnical Engineers of the Indian Army which was stationed in Hyderabad.

The incident is being probed, police said.

They might be genuine military personnel who had came to the city to take part in the World Military Games, the Airport Director R K Singla said and added that the CISF has been asked to submit a report on the incident.
