Jammu and Kashmir Forest Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal on Saturday handed over his son, wanted in connection with an alleged case of manhandling of government officials, to police for further action, even as he claimed it was a planned conspiracy to malign his image.

"I handed over my son, Ayaz, at the police station in Ganderbal," Qazi, who defeated National Conference president Omar Abdullah from the party's traditional stronghold, said.

The police on May 10 registered a case under Section 353 of the Indian Panel Code against Ayaz for allegedly physically assaulting government employees on duty.

The case was registered after three senior officers of PDD -- Executive Engineer Mansoor Ahmad, Assistant Executive Engineer G M Shah and Assistant Engineer Nissar Ahmad -- alleged that they were roughed up by four persons led by the minister's son at Lar village.

The officers had gone to Lar village to look into the allegations of the locals that the power transformer sanctioned for them was installed in a locality different than where it was sanctioned for.

The officers were stopped by a group of persons allegedly led by Ayaz Qazi who allegedly thrashed them.

Qazi, however, said he was his son is unnecessarily dragged into the controversy. "It is a well planned conspiracy against me," he said and demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.
