Members of Parliament belonging to the ruling Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought his intervention on the "indiscriminate" killing of fishermen from the state by the Sri Lankan Navy.

In a memorandum to Dr Singh, the MPs belonging to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress, Pattali Makkal Katchi and Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam alleged that the Lankan Navy was indulging in unprovoked attacks on the innocent and hapless fishermen in Bay of Bengal for quite some time now.

The Lankan Navy had shot fishermen to death, seized their boats, besides illegally arresting them, they alleged while reminding that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had already brought these incidents to the notice of the Centre.

"But to our utter dismay, the Sri Lankan Navy has not stopped their unlawful activities and rather, they are continuing their unprovoked shooting spree on Indian fishermen," the delegation led by Union Minister and senior DMK leader T R Baalu said.

The MPs said that the prime minister assured to take necessary action.
