S M Khan, press secretary to President A P J Abdul Kalam, has said that no request has been received from the Third Front parties to call on President A P J Abdul Kalam.
Third Front convenor and former chief minister of Tamil Naidu Jayalalithaa had proposed the name of Kalam for another term in office.
"I have got a number of requests from mediapersons. So far we have not received any request from the Third Front. We will get back to the media by the evening," he told rediff.com on phone after the Third Front announced its decision formally.
Kalam had refused to enter the presidential poll for a second term unless it was a unanimous decision. Third Front, which was expected to announce the name of Fatima Beevi for the post of the President, refused to do so and asked all political parties to talk to both National Democratic Alliance and United Progressive Alliance to think again and ask Kalam for another term in the office as he was the most suited candidate.
According to experts, the Third Front's decision has come as a big breather to the Shekhawat camp who hopes to rope in majority of the votes and thereby narrow the gap between Pratibha Patil and the vice president of India.
Meanwhile, a Rashtrapati Bhavan [Images] source said that President Kalam would be moving to Chennai, and take up teaching at the Annadurai University.
"He will be living on the campus," the source said. But a suitable accomodation has already been found in Delhi on Aurangzeb Road so that Kalam could stay there when in Delhi. "We are not aware of any such development," the source said.
