The Third Front is yet to take a decision on fielding a candidate for the presidential election, the Telugu Desam Party, a key player in the grouping, said on Friday.
"Depending on the developments, we will take a decision on June 18 (when the Front leaders meet in Chennai)," the TDP Parliamentary party leader K Yerran Naidu told reporters in Hyderabad.
While declining to comment on United Progressive Alliance-Left candidate Pratibha Patil, he said it was also not clear whether "NDA would put up a candidate on its own or support an independent or cooperate with the ruling coalition in ensuring an unanimous election."
"Under these circumstances, we are just waiting for the June 18 meeting to discuss the issue and take an appropriate decision," Naidu said.
A group of eight regional parties -- TDP, Samajwadi Party, AIADMK, MDMK, Asom Gana Parishad, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, Indian National Lok Dal and Kerala [Images] Congress, had, on June 6, announced formation of a new Front as an alternative to Congress and BJP.
The Front leaders are scheduled to meet in Chennai on June 18 to decide the name, organisational structure and policies of the new Front.
The June 6 conclave, held at TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad, had a "preliminary discussion" on the stand to be taken on the presidential election.
