Dismissing charges that his country was turning a blind eye to Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants operating from Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf has said that Islamabad will not lend support to terrorists or extremists, having lost hundreds to acts of terror.

"Hundreds of Pakistanis were victims of suicide attacks in recent years," Musharraf told media persons in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday at the conclusion of his two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates as part of a regional tour that also took him to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Syria.

Expressing concern over violence in the Middle East, Musharraf said dangers loomed large in the region that threatened regional and global peace.

"I took this opportunity to brief His Highness (UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan) on the developing peace process between India and Pakistan, and the progress the two countries have made over the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir," Musharraf said.
