With many countries expected to join the race and compete with the Brahmos supersonic missile, India has to definitely go for newer and innovative technology -- the hypersonic missile, Dr Shivathanu Pillai, Managing Director of Brahmos said on Friday.
"As such the Brahmos missile, a joint venture of India and Russia, is the best available in the market and other countries are trying to come out with better products," Pillai told media persons in Coimbatore.
If any country succeeded to compete with Brahmos, the missile will lose its importance. To counter it, India has to produce a highly innovative product (hypersonic missile) in another five years or sooner, he said.
A joint team from India and Russia was formed when Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India last month and discussed various concepts on how to go about the new technology, Pillai said.
On interceptive missile, Pillai, who is also chief controller, R&D, DRDO, said 'the country had already experimented on known conditions. Further experiment has to be undertaken under unknown conditions, which would take some more years.'
