Security forces on Thursday gunned down a militant belonging to Al-Badr outfit in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's [Images] Rajouri district, a defence spokesman said in Jammu.

Acting on specific information, a joint team of Rashtriya Rifle and Special Operation Group of police launched an operation at Khund on Wednesday night. In the subsequent encounter, the militant was killed at around 4:30 am, he said.

An AK rifle along with four magazines and a mobile phone were recovered from the slain militant, identified only as Qasim, a foreign mercenary, the spokesman said.

The militant is believed to have sneaked from across the Line of Control a few months back.
