Bharti Yadav, key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case, has been issued travel documents by the government to enable her to come to India from Britain for giving evidence in the case on November 29.
Bharti, sister of the main accused Vikas Yadav, was issued emergency travel documents by the Indian High Commission in London on Friday as her passport has been revoked on court directions.
She appeared before the High Commission as required and was granted the travel documents as per the Delhi high court order passed on November 14, her lawyer S C Bhuttan told PTI in New Delhi on Saturday.
The high court, while restraining the police from arresting Bharti, had directed the external affairs ministry to issue emergency travel documents, including a fresh passport to Bharti on her arrival in India for the scheduled deposition before the trial court on November 25.
However, the date of her arrival has now been rescheduled to Novemebr 29 by the court on her request.
Bharti is the daughter of former member of Parliament D P Yadav and her brother Vikas and cousin Vishal Yadav are accused of kidnapping and murdering Nitish with whom she allegedly had an intimate relationship.
While Vikas and another accused Sukhdev Pehlwan are in jail, Vishal was granted bail by the Delhi high court, which has been challenged by the prosecution in the Supreme Court.
Katara was allegedly kidnapped and murdered on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where he had gone to attend a marriage party.
