Six persons, including three securitymen were injured in another powerful hand grenade explosion in Srinagar [Images] on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to five in the earlier south Kashmir grenade explosion inside a mosque compound on Friday afternoon.

A senior police officer in Srinagar said militants attacked a posse of securitymen in the Hari Singh High Street area of Srinagar with a hand grenade.

"Three civilians, one local policeman and two paramilitary troopers were wounded in the explosion that occurred in the Hari Singh High Street market on Friday afternoon. The injured have been shifted to the hospital and the area is being now searched for militant presence," a senior police officer told this correspondent in Srinagar.

The death toll in the south Kashmir Tahab village mosque explosion rose to five with one more seriously wounded civilian succumbing to injuries while being shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

It must be recalled that earlier on Friday separatist militants tossed a hand grenade inside a mosque compound in south Kashmir Tahab village, 42 km from Srinagar, when several hundred worshippers had gathered there to offer the Friday prayers.

The condition of some of the wounded among the 30 persons who sustained splinter injuries in the explosion are stated to be critical by the attending doctors.

"Militants lobbed a grenade inside the mosque compound where several hundred worshippers had gathered to offer the Friday prayers," S M Sahai, inspector general of police (Kashmir zone), told rediff.com in Srinagar.

A pall of gloom descended on Tahab village where anxious locals gathered outside the mosque to enquire about their relatives.

Senior district officials of the civil and police administration have reached the village and relief and rescue is being supervised by them.
