Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned after the SP MPs in both the Houses raised the issue of government's planning to bring an ordinance to save the membership of congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi [Images] and 43 others who are allegedly holding offices of profit besides the membership of parliament. The members were waving copies of the Indian Express which carried the story that the government was planning to bring an ordinance after the current session ends on Wednesday and the two houses meet again on may 10.
The members raised slogans like 'Navin Chawla ko bhagao, Jaya Bachchan ko wapas lao' (Remove Navin Chawla, bring back Jaya Bachchan) and 'Ye sab bahana hai, Sonia ko bachana hai' (This is a pretext to save Sonia Gandhi).
"It hasn't happened before because under section 123 unless the house is adjourned sine die no ordinance can be brought when the house is in session, said Kapil Sibal, leading Supreme Court advocate outside the Parliament house.
T Subirama Reddy who is a Union Minister and also holds a post in the Tirupati trust denied that his office paid him any money." This is not an office of profit and many mps before me had also held the same posts." he said.
