For the first time since outbreak of militancy in 1989, Jammu and Kashmir [Images] remained violence-free for the second successive day on Wednesday as there was no report of any militancy-related incident from any part of the state, police claimed.
There was no report of any militancy-related incident from anywhere in the border state for the second day running, a police spokesman told PTI.
During the past one-and-a-half decade, daily killings and violence have become routine and hardly a day had passed without any incident of violence in the state.
Even the brief ceasefire announced by Hizbul Mujahideen [Images] and centre on several occassions in the past had failed to bring down the level of violence.
This is for the first time since 1989 that two days have passed without any militancy-related incident, the spokesman said.
