One person was killed and seven others were injured on Friday, as protestors attacked vehicles and blocked rail and road traffic in West Bengal during the 12-hour bandh called by the Trinamool Congress against farmland acquisition for a Tata Motors [Get Quote] project.

An employee of the Karandighi Block Development Office in North Dinajpur was killed when bandh supporters pelted stones on a state bus, IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.

Three Bangladeshi passengers of the Kolkata-Dhaka bus were injured, when Trinamool Congress pelted stones on it on NH 35 near Bongaon, the police said.

Two of the passengers continued the journey after medical aid, while a woman passenger left in another bus three hours ater after receiving stitches for a head injury.

Two bombs were hurled at Hazra in the metropolis, while police used batons to disperse bandh supporters at  Ballygunge, they said.

State Congress vice-president Subrata Mukherjee who was leading a procession was arrested at Gariahat for trying to block traffic. His party had, on Thursday, extended 'moral support' to the bandh.

Tension prevailed at Hazra, near the residence of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, where Trinamool supporters took out a procession. A police picket was posted and the Rapid Action Force deployed there.

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from other parts of the state.

Over 300 bandh supporters were taken into custody for trying to block road and rail traffic and for damaging a bus, police sources said.
