Former Bihar minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate for Belaganj constituency in Gaya district Surendra Prasad Yadav was on Friday arrested on charges of possessing illegal firearms.
BSF personnel held Yadav and some of his supporters in Gaya district.
They were later handed over to the police, Bihar Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha said.
Yadav's arrest comes close on the heels of a controversy over the arrest and subsequent release of Vijay Prakash, RJD nominee for Jamui seat and brother of Union Minister Jaiprakash Narain Yadav, who was caught with a rifle, huge cash and liquor bottles on October 18, when the first phase of polling was on.
The police are conducting raids to re-arrest Vijay Prakas on the orders of the Election Commission.
An inspector-general of police and an officer in charge of a police station were docked for Prakas' release.
Bhagalpur Inspector-General N C Dhondiyal was shifted and replaced by Muzaffarpur IG Sunit Kumar, who will hold additional charge of the zone, while officer in-charge of Khaira Police Station Mukteshwar Prasad was suspended.
