Syed Shahabuddin's son found dead in US

The son of noted Muslim scholar Syed Shahabuddin, Nayyar Pervez, was found dead in mysterious conditions in a hotel room in the United States, where he was working as a professor in Columbia University.

Pervez, 44, one of the youngest professors of the prestigious university, was found dead in a hotel room in New York on Thursday evening, his family members said in New Delhi Saturday.

The only son of Shahabuddin, he had been in the US for some years. He is married and has two children.

His family members in New Delhi are desperately trying to gather more details about his mysterious death.

He had last called his wife on Wednesday evening and was found dead in the hotel room a day later, they said.

His body would be flown to India on Monday, they added.

Syed Shahabuddin, a former member of Parliament, is the president of All India Muslim Majlis-Mushawarrat.
