US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice [Images] extended the invitation when she met the prime minister on Wednesday in New Delhi.

Rice, on her part, invited External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh to visit the US.

Rice, who had a 25-minute one-to-one meeting with the prime minister, said Bush decided she should visit India early in her tenure to convey his government's strong commitment to Indo-US relations.

Explaining India's growing energy needs, the prime minister said an energy dialogue was needed between the two countries.

He said the dialogue should discuss various traditional and non-traditional sources of energy.

Sarna said nuclear energy was also one of the sources India was looking at for meeting its energy needs.
