The Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers' Association on Monday joined the list of well-wishers of Prince Charles and his fiancee Camilla Parker Bowles by dispatching its own unique gift for the couple.

The tiffin suppliers, pupularly called 'Dabbawalas', handed over a 'Puneri Pheta' (a traditional turban from Pune), considered auspicious for nuptials, to a courier firm to be delivered to the royal groom.

President of the association, Raghunath Medge told PTI that "the auspicious gift for the groom, a traditional green sari and a pair of Kolhapuri sandals for the bride, have been gift-wrapped and handed over to a courier firm after performing a puja".

Charles and Bowles will get married in April.

'The raja of England will meet us'

The association attracted Charles' attention during his visit to Mumbai in November 2003.

"I am happy that many chipped in to make our wish to send these gifts. Even the owner of a private courier company said he would bear the cost of sending the parcel to Prince Charles," Medge said.

The gift will be dispatched on Tuesday after completion of some embassy formalities, he added.

Medge said, "We did not get the typical nauvari (nine metre) saree as the bride may not be able to wear it, but she may wear the six metre sari."

The dabbawalas deliver about 1.5 lakh boxes of home-cooked lunch to office-goers and students all over the city each day.
