Accusing the Congress party of having a 'dynastic mindset', Bharatiya Janata Party [Images] president Lal Kishenchand Advani [Images] on Sunday said the Congress believed that only one family could rule the country and asserted that his party was determined to fight against it.

Speaking at a 'Save Democracy' meeting, organised by the BJP's Karnataka unit on the 30th anniversary of the imposition of the Emergency, Advani said it was the 'innate mindset' of the Congress, which did not believe in democracy that led to the Emergency.

"The Congress has a dynastic mindset that one family alone is capable of ruling the country and not the opposition
unless the opposition also goes with it," the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha said.

He said this 'mindset' was reflected in the events in Goa [Images], Bihar and Jharkhand and added, it is this mindset we are
fighting against and we are determined to fight.

Harking back to the days of the Emergency and the 'atrocities unthinkable even during the British rule', which
were perpetrated then, he emphasised that nobody now would be foolish to even think of invoking Article 352 of the Constitution to impose emergency because of the lessons the people had taught the rulers in the 1977 elections.

Advani, who faced problems with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh over his recent remarks on Mohammed Ali Jinnah, also praised the Sangh Parivar outfit, saying he had learnt the lessons of patriotism, social service and 'Bharatiya' culture from it ever since he was moulded as a swayamsevak.

The RSS and the erstwhile Jan Sangh also came in for his praise for the role they played during the days of the Emergency when, he said, all the institutions, including the press, had 'collapsed'.
