Mumbai airport will remain closed till 4 pm due to non-availability of landing aids, airport officials said in Mumbai on Wednesday.
A notice to airline issued said the airport is closed till 4 pm. A review would, however, be made at 3 pm before taking any further decision, the official added.
Airport officials said they tried this morning to access the area where landing and navigational aids are located, but could not do so due to water-logging following incessant rains since Tuesday.
The Mithi river near the airport overflowed leading to a wall collapse following which the water inundated the runway.
With the runway underwater, the airport was closed and no flight could take off after 2.30 pm on Tuesday, airport sources said.
Earlier, a NOTAM had been issued that the airport would be closed till 11 am.
A fresh NOTAM stated that all flights out of Mumbai have been cancelled.
Power to the Sahar terminal building was also switched off as a precautionary measure and is being restored in phases, an airport official said adding, due to the flooding, water flowed through the building while the taxi stand outside continued to be under water.
