In a crackdown following the twin hooch tragedy in Mumbai, police have seized 1110 litres of illicit liquor from two different parts of the city and arrested two persons, including a woman, in this connection.

Excise department seized 500 litres of illicit liquor during a raid at Mumbra in Thane district, police said.

About 570 litres of liquor was seized from central Mumbai and 40 litres from suburban Andheri, stored in nine tyre tubes and five plastic cans, during raids on Saturday evening, police said.

The spurious liquor tragedy, which was first reported on December 23, has claimed 99 lives so far. Some 100 persons are undergoing treatment in various city hospitals.

Forty persons were arrested earlier for their involvement in spurious liquor trade and Maharashtra has already ordered  a CID inquiry into the matter while several police and excise department personnel were suspended for failing to check the illegal trade.
