Saddam's half-brother held in Iraq

February 27, 2005 21:59 IST

Ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's half-brother was arrested on Sunday, official sources said.

"Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan has been held in Iraq," official sources said.

It is unclear whether the Iraqi or US forces arrested him. Ibrahim al-Hassan was number 36 on the US list of most wanted officials of the Saddam regime in Iraq.

Hassan was Saddam's advisor and intelligence chief, a key post in the old regime.

Two other half-brothers of Saddam, Barzan and Watban, are in the US army-run jail near Baghdad. Their trials will be held in the coming months.
