Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, who had launched an indefinite fast since February 21 to protest against the Maharashtra government's policy on slums while lodged in Kalyan Jail, was on Saturday hospitalised in Mumbai after she fell sick.
"Patkar was admitted to J J Hospital around 3 am and forcefully put on saline around 5.30 am. She is stable now," a source said.
Patkar was arrested on February 21 while addressing a meeting of Ambuj Nagar slum-dwellers and chargesheeted for unlawful assembly, criminal trespassing and rioting.
She had refused to seek bail as directed by a Borivili court and sent to Kalyan Jail in neighbouring Thane district, where she launched the indefinite fast.
The activist was first taken to Ullhas Nagar Central Hospital and later shifted to J J hospital.
