Traffic on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway was partially restored on Monday after remaining closed for nearly a week even as the power crisis in the Valley entered it eighth day.

"One-way traffic on the highway was restored today (Monday)," a defence spokesman said.

He said vehicular traffic from Jammu to Srinagar [Images] was being allowed on the arterial road to enable vehicles carrying essentials to reach Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Valley continued to reel under darkness due to damage to its four power transmission towers.

The towers of 220 KV transmission lines were damaged by avalanches last Monday (February 7) leading to an unprecedented power crisis in the area, an official said.

Also at around 6am on Sunday, the 132 KV transmission line developed a snag, plunging the Valley into darkness.

He said efforts were on to restore power supply and the work may take three weeks.

However, the government has restored power supply to essential services including hospitals, some camps of security forces and the Urban Environment Engineering Department.
