The country's largest and premier paramilitary force, Central Reserve Police Force, which has recently been entrusted with the responsibility to maintain the internal security throughout the length and breath of the nation, plans to make its intelligence wing operational very soon.

"We have been made responsible to ensure there was no threat to our internal security. Unless we get information, which is a very important tool in the maintenance of internal security, it would be difficult for us to function. When the CRPF was set up, this particular role was not envisioned for it," CRPF Director-General J K Sinha said.

"In today's changed circumstances, CRPF needs to have its own intelligence wing," he said.

He said that already the CRPF has recruited over 1400 probables to train them in the job of intelligence gathering.

"However, we are awaiting the clearance of the central government to make the proposed intelligence wing operational," he added.
