'India is India. No other country can match up'
Being married to (golfer) Jyoti Randhawa I have been travelling the world. I also have had the opportunity to travel within India and I am convinced that there is no country in the world that can match up to our India -- which is so unique, diverse and yet so homogenous.
I truly feel very proud of being an Indian. What is more important is that when you are in your own country you do not feel you are being discriminated against. If you go and settle abroad in some places you feel you have been reduced to a second grade citizen.
You realise what Independence means when you are in your own country. Here you have the freedom of expression, freedom to live the way you want.
India is becoming a major economic power. I have been talking to a lot of Non Resident Indians, particularly the younger generation, and they want to be in India. I have been to villages and seen a unique relationship between the rich and the poor. The best thing is that no one is going without food at least in the villages.
Living in India is a beautiful experience. India is India and there is no other country in the world like it. I feel elated when I call myself an Indian.
