Iraq war motivated by oil: Hans Blix

April 07, 2005 09:48 IST

United Nations former chief weapons inspector in Iraq Hans Blix has said that the US waged the war against Iraq for oil.

The US is incredibly dependent on oil and it feared that the competition on the world market could become 'too hard', he told a security seminar in Stockholm.

There is increasing tension between US and China over oil, he added.

The war was also prompted by the US' need to relocate its troops from Saudi Arabia.
