I share values with Bush: Rice

November 18, 2004 09:13 IST

US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, nominated by President George W Bush to succeed Colin Powell as secretary of state, told NBC-TV on Wednesday that she and Bush share many values.

"Both of us believe America has to stand up for the democratic process and for the oppressed people," Rice said.

"Freedom is not somehow America's gift to the world. As the president says, it's god's gift to all people."

Rice recalled that she got to know Bush during the presidency of his father George Bush, Sr.

"We had early discussions about foreign policy and what it would mean for foreign policy if he (Bush) decided to pursue the presidency," she said.

Asked whether she sometimes disagrees with Bush, Rice said, "Of course. I tell him exactly what I think."

Rice also revealed that like the president, she regarded herself as a "born again Christian".
