Decision to arrest seer hasty: Advani

November 14, 2004 19:00 IST

The Tamil Nadu police took the decision to arrest Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati in connection with a murder case in "haste" or "under pressure", Bharatiya Janata Party president Lal Kishenchand Advani said in Amritsar on Sunday.

The Shankaracharya's arrest: The Full Coverage

"The Supreme Court has set certain guidelines on whom to arrest or whom not to arrest for what offence," he said.

"He (the Shankaracharya) is not the kind of person who will go underground or vanish. As far as the facts are concerned, the case is in court and it is the court that has to decide," he added.
