Uma-Mahajan differences out in open

November 04, 2004 23:26 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Uma Bharti on Thursday night admitted that she had some reservations regarding Pramod Mahajan's inclusion in the new team of party office-bearers.

Bharti, who was named general secretary on Thursday five days after she turned down the offer, told Aaj Tak news channel that Mahajan had made certain critical remarks during her 'Tiranga Yatra', "like there is no need for such a yatra".

"I am not denying that I had some discussion regarding Mahajan with [party president Lal Kishenchand] Advani, but I do not want to pursue it," she said.

"BJP is not any ordinary political organisation that hankers after power, but a party based on certain principles and ideology," she said, adding any violation of the party's code hurt her.

She said she had "some view about her colleagues", but did not want to discuss them in the open.

On Madhya Pradesh politics, she said, "Since the people's mandate was directly for me, I want to ensure that the programmes for their benefit are implemented properly. I have quit the chief minister's post but not the responsibility."
