Akalis to boycott Tytler in Parliament

May 25, 2004 13:12 IST

The Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday said it will boycott Jagdish Tytler, an accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, in Parliament.

SAD president Parkash Singh Badal said the appointment of Tytler as a minister of state with independent charge in the Manmohan Singh government shows the Congress' indifference towards Punjab and Sikhs.

"We will boycott all proceedings of Parliament in which Tytler plays an active part like Congress did in the case of
former defence minister George Fernandes," he said.

The SAD chief said Tytler's appointment also shows "how little respect Congress and Sonia Gandhi have for the opinion of media, human rights and civil liberties activists, who indicted Tytler for his role in the massacre of innocent
Sikhs."
