No CBI probe into Marad violence: Antony
June 10, 2004 18:23 IST
After a long wait, the United Democratic Front government in Kerala has finally decided not to go in for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the conspiracy angle behind last year's violence in Marad in Kozhikode district that claimed nine lives.
Chief Minister A K Antony told reporters after a cabinet meeting today that the government was going by the advocate general's advice on the matter.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated outfits in the state had pressed for a CBI probe into the violence alleging 'fundamentalist' forces were involved in the conspiracy behind the carnage in the coastal hamlet.
The advocate general had reportedly advised the government against going in for a CBI probe since the case had
been investigated by the state crime branch and a chargesheet submitted in the special court set up for trying the case.
