Good rain is expected in the coming week in Marathwada, Central Maharashtra and Central India due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal but it may not be enough to wipe out the deficit created during last three weeks, the Meteorological Department said.

"We expect the low pressure developed in the Bay of Bengal to intensify further and move towards Central India, Marathwada and Central Maharashtra," N Jayanti, Deputy Director General, Indian Meteorological Department, Pune told PTI.

"Whether or not it will be intense enough to wipe out the rainfall deficit which is 10 per cent as on July 7," Jayanti said.

"Monsoon this year advanced almost ten days before time and we had good rains till June 18 creating a record of 21 per cent more rainfall than normal," she said.

The onset of monsoon was good in three-fourth of the country, however, in some parts even in the middle of July it has not advanced, Jayanti said. "In fact, there is no sign of any rain in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and some parts of Rajasthan," she added.
