Chirag Juvekar, a Class IX student of IES Modern English School in Mumbai, has won a national contest for science fiction.

His story, Two Minutes to Save The World, has won him the 'Classmate Young Author' award and an all expenses paid trip to Paris with his mother.

The jury comprised renowned author Ruskin Bond, columnist Jug Suraiya and Rupa co-editor Indira Khanna.

The story revolves around a group of scientists who invent an artificial fibre.

"We were looking for originality, creativity and the manner in which the story is written," Khanna said
 
"It was surprising to find that the students had written well-structured, futuristic and original ideas. There was no fairy tale or adventure story and all the stories were quite polished," she added.

Juvekar, a keen quizzer, said he "realised the importance of this contest only when he went for the finals to Delhi."
