December 14, 2004 15:03 IST
At least seven people were killed and scores injured after a suicide car bomber struck a checkpoint at Baghdad's Green Zone early Tuesday, report agencies. A similar attack Monday on the heavily fortified Green Zone--which houses Iraq's interim government and foreign embassies--had left 13 dead and over 70 injured.

Reporters at the site said smoke was billowing from the region after the explosion at 8.25 am, and that security agencies had cordoned off the site.
Monday's attack occured on the first anniversary of Saddam Hussein's capture by American troops, and observers predict more such attempts before the UN-sponsored elections slated for January 30.
