September 17, 2003 11:47 IST

US forces have held eight people, six claiming to be Americans and two alleged British nationals, in Iraq suspecting their involvement in attacks on its personnel.

They would be the first Westerners to be held in this connection, a top General said.

They were being held in Baghdad but US military officials have not given any other detail.
