Disruption in outstation train
services from and to Mumbai
March 19, 2003 11:22 IST
Long distance train services on the Western Railway were adversely affected after a goods train that was proceeding towards New Delhi derailed between Virar and Vaitarna stations early on Wednesday.
No one was injured in the incident, Western Railway sources said.
"The derailment occurred at 0445 IST and has led to blocking of both up and down lines," Western Railway PRO Bhagwat Dahisarkar told PTI.
Restoration work is on and officials are trying to restore at least one line by 1800 IST, he said adding that senior railway officials have rushed to the site to supervise operations.
Several outstation trains from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus, including the Paschim Express, have been rescheduled, he said.
