June 15, 2003 01:40 IST
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday sought the blessings of Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti at his tomb in Ajmer.
Gandhi offered a velvet chadar and roses as Khadim Ghani Gurdeji presented her gifts wishing prosperity and success.
Anjuman, the organisation of Khadims, also presented her gifts.
Gandhi was on a one-day tour of Rajasthan.
Earlier, Gandhi performed puja at the Pushkar lake and visited the Brahma's temple, which is believed to be the only one in the country.
Gandhi also saw the progress of the famine relief work being undertaken by the state government headed by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk districts.
She also visited Gurudeo Parmarth goshala at Naad village, eight kilometres from Pushkar, where 3,000 drought-hit cows are being given shelter. On her way to Ajmer, Gandhi visited about a dozen relief work and fodder depots.
Her party general secretary Ambika Soni, Gehlot and Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girija Vyas had accompanied Gandhi.
Gandhi had a rare sight of big cats at Ranthambhore National Park where she stayed overnight after her tour.
