Advani will not resign: Venkaiah Naidu

June 08, 2003 18:18 IST

Describing the Congress demand for Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani's resignation as 'irresponsible', BJP president Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday ruled out the resignation of any minister in the wake of the statement of five kar sewaks that they pulled down the disputed structure at Ayodhya at Advani's instigation.

"The allegation is without basis. There could be a conspiracy behind this," Naidu said.

"There is no question of any minister resigning. There is no rationale for it and there is no question of using government influence for it. If at all the government wanted to interfere in the process of investigation or the rule of law, it would have withdrawn the cases, like it was done during the Indira Gandhi regime," he said.
