The National Conference has withdrawn support to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre.

Addressing the press in Srinagar, NC president Omar Abdullah said the decision was taken to 'protect' the identity of the party in Jammu and Kashmir.

He claimed the party has 'suffered' as result of its alliance with the BJP.

The unanimous decision to part ways with the NDA, said Abdullah, was taken at a meeting of the party's central working committee on Thursday.

He added the decision will be convened to the NDA soon.
