Centre has assured of solution: NSCN (I-M)

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi | January 14, 2003 14:02 IST

The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) said on Tuesday that the Centre had assured it of a solution to the Naga problem.

After a ten-member delegation of the NSCN (I-M), led by chairman Isak Chishi Swu and general secretary Th Muivah, met Finance Minister Jaswant Singh at North Block in New Delhi, the outfit's spokesman, Raising, said, "We are very much thankful to the Government of India for giving us a warm reception. We had a very meaningful talk with the honourable finance minister. We could hammer out something for a tangible solution this time.

"We are fully committed to the peace process. The Government of India has also repeatedly assured us that they will try to solve the problem."

Raising refused to go into the details of the discussions with Singh.

Earlier, Singh said "I am very glad and honoured as I share (the idea) that to peace there is no alternative. And this is an act of faith that the Government of India has stepped forward for the talks. I am committed to peace. I am convinced that on this path alone lies peace and amity, which is for the welfare of all the people, including those in Nagaland."
