Dibrugarh-bound Kamrup Express derails in Assam
January 11, 2003 04:50 IST
The engine and at least 10 bogies of the Howrah-Dibrugarh Kamrup Express derailed on Friday night near Pathsala station, 90 km from Guwahati, on the West Bengal-Assam border, railway sources said.
There were no immediate reports of any casualty in the accident, which occurred around 2230 IST in Barpeta district in lower Assam, the sources said.
The train, which left Howrah station on Friday evening at 1852 IST, was moving at a slow speed, due to poor visibility, at the time of the derailment, they added.
A special relief train carrying senior railway officials has left for the site to evacuate the stranded passengers, the sources said.
Further details are awaited.
As recently as January 3, the Secunderabad-Manmad Express had derailed in Maharashtra. Railway Minister Nitish Kumar had then said that railway officials were to blame for the accident.
