Our Correspondent in Mumbai | January 07, 2003 15:35 IST

Syed Khwaja Yunus Khwaja Ayub (28), a key accused in the Ghatkopar bus blast that left two dead and 28 injured, escaped from the police custody on Tuesday morning while he was being taken to Aurangabad for inquiry.

Ayub, a resident of Parbhani in Marathwada region, was arrested on December 24 in Washim in Vidharba. He was charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Ayub and three of his associates had planted another bomb at SEEPZ in western Mumbai, which was defused by the bomb disposal squad of the Mumbai police.
