Hurriyat to seek help from Asian NGOs

January 02, 2003 17:29 IST

The All-Party Hurriyat Conference said on Thursday that it would seek the help of Asian non-governmental organisation to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Before leaving for a six-day conference of Asian NGOs to be held in Hyderabad from Friday, former Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said that during the meet he would highlight the need for dialogue between India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.

The Mirwaiz, who will speak on two issues, Peace and Security and Alternative Peoples' Struggle, said, "When we talk about peace in the Asian continent, let us not turn our back to the main problem of Kashmir, which could turn out to be a nuclear flashpoint between India and Pakistan."

Around 10,000 delegates from 300 NGOs are expected to attend the conference.

Noted Human rights activists from Pakistan and Palestine are also likely to join the conference, organised by the Asian Social Forum.
