Kolkata Raj Bhavan corrupt: Official

February 13, 2003 20:40 IST

An aide de camp of West Bengal Governor Viren J Shah called a press conference on Wednesday night and leveled allegations of corruption in the Raj Bhavan.

ADC Anirban Roy said he had intimated Chief Secretary Sourin Ray and top officials of the government about it.

Asked why he had chosen to call the press conference at 0100 IST, Roy said he 'feared for my safety and that of my family'.

He, however, failed to produce documents in support of his allegations.

Joint Secretary to the governor D K Gautam said Roy's charges were baseless.

"Roy had not been maintaining good health prior to his joining the Raj Bhavan and appears to be emotionally distressed on account of his personal problems," Gautam said.

He said, "Charges leveled by him are totally baseless and do not merit comment. Raj Bhavan does not enter into any controversy."

Sourin Ray said Roy had violated service rules by going to the media with allegations against the Raj Bhavan. He said 'appropriate action' would be taken against the Indian Police Service officer.
