Medical entrance exam papers leaked in J&K

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar | December 07, 2003 21:02 IST

The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Bureau on Sunday arrested two persons for leaking the entrance examination papers for the post-graduate medicine course.

The revelation comes close on the heels of the leak of the papers of the Combined Admission Test for IIMs.

The racket, bureau officials said, was busted when on a tip off sleuths headed by Senior Superintendent of Police Ghulam Hassan Bhat raided a residential house in the posh Rajbagh locality in Srinagar.

The sources said that the house belonged to a college teacher -- Abdul Hamid Dar -- believed to be the kingpin of the racket. The teacher, they said, gave sleuths the slip.

The vigilance teams, sources said, seized Rs 2 million from the house. Sources said that among the documents seized from the house was a complete set of question paper for Sunday's entrance examination.More than 2000 candidates appeared in the test.

Interestingly the question paper of the exam matched the leaked question paper seized from the house.

Sources said the vigilance teams during inspection discovered that at one of the examination centres one question paper was missing from the lot distributed.

In another raid sleuths arrested Shahnawaz Khan, son of a senior police officer, who is believed to be a conduit for the racket.

Khan, sources said, was entrusted with the task of luring candidates to buy the question papers.

The sleuths seized a bank draft of Rs 300,000 made in favour of Khan. They said a candidate in lieu of the question paper gave the draft to Khan.
