No-trust motion a challenge: Advani

August 15, 2003 12:02 IST

Taking the Opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion as a challenge, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Friday asserted it provides an opportunity to the government to project its achievements of the past four
years.

The no-trust motion will be put to vote on Tuesday next.

Speaking to reporters after hoisting the national flag at his residence on the occasion of Independence Day, he said: "I am happy that the opposition has provided us this opportunity."

Looking back at 56 years of Independence, the deputy prime minister said the country has made progress in all spheres of life, but there is still much to achieve. "We have to overcome our shortcomings and should try to work hard for fulfiling the target of becoming a developed nation by 2030," Advani said.

Advani distributed sweets to everyone around him -- security personnel, mediamen, children and guests.
