The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will confront Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot with Trishul [trident] worship ceremonies wherever he goes in the state.

Announcing this, VHP leader Praveen Togadia said, "Trishul worship ceremonies will be held twice -- a day prior to and a day after the visit of Gehlot anywhere in the state -- to protest the state government's decision to ban tridents and thereby hurting the sentiments of Hindus."

He was in court in Ajmer in connection with cases filed against him for distributing tridents and delivering inflammatory speeches earlier this month.

Similar protests will greet Deputy Chief Minister Kamla Beniwal who is already facing a controversy over her alleged acceptance of a sword from the organisers of an animal fair held on April 25 in Jaipur.

Togadia expressed surprise that presentation of a sword to Beniwal was not considered an offence under the Arms Act, but the distribution of tridents for worshiping was being held as a violation of the act by the government.

He also charged the Gehlot government with "conspiring to divide society for political gains and using the state's brutal power in hurting the sentiments of the majority community".
