650 tridents seized from VHP office in Ajmer

Kamla Bora in Jaipur | April 12, 2003 05:57 IST

The Rajasthan administration on Friday raided the office of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Christianganj area of Ajmer and seized around 650 trishuls that were meant to be distributed at a dharma sabha.

Three days ago the state government had banned trishuls.

A case under section 4/45 of the Arms Act was registered but no arrest took place, officials said.

Several other places were also being raided in the Ajmer and a few arrests were expected, they said.

The administration has allowed the VHP to hold it dharma sabha on Sunday on the condition that trishuls will not be distributed.

Both the VHP and the Bharatiya Janata Party are opposing the description of trishul as a weapon by the government.
