Chennai police rescues 97 bonded labourers

The Chennai police on Thursday rescued 97 people, including 42 children, who were being taken to Gujarat as bonded labourers.

They were rescued from the Chennai-Ahmedabad Navjeevan Express minutes before the train was to leave the platform.

They had arrived in the morning from the Tenkasi-Mukkudal area by the Nellai Express

All of them were sent of various protection homes being run by the Social Welfare Department.

The police had arrested four women and two men in this connection.
