N Sathiya Moorthyin Chennai

The Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday detained K Paranthaman, general secretary of the banned Tamizhar Desiya Iyakkam [Tamil Nationalist Movement], under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Paranthaman was picked up from his residence at Manamadurai town in Sivaganga district.

He will be produced before the special POTA court in Poonamalee, on the outskirts of Chennai.

The TNM leader is charged with delivering speeches in support of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

TNM founder P Nedumaran is already behind bars on similar charges. The state government has also banned the organisation and sealed its offices in Chennai and Madurai.
